Lewis County 24-Hour Release Status
Lewis County does not publish a working official list of people released today. The county’s detention-center page still displays a link labeled as an inmate list, but its external host did not resolve during the county research. More importantly, the former Lewis County Detention Center closed after a county vote in 2021. The old link is therefore not a live roster, a release archive, or proof about any person’s status.
A current Lewis arrest can still create several records. The Lewis court keeps the case. The Lewis County Sheriff may hold a transport record. A receiving jail creates the booking, movement, and release sheet. The physical custodian’s timestamped release record is the strongest source for the moment someone left that jail. A missing name on the obsolete Lewis page establishes none of those facts.
Check Lewis County Releases Today
Begin with the named person and the time period, not with a presumed jail. Lewis County initially sent detainees to Mason County after the local jail closed. Later Fiscal Court agendas document an arrangement for Rowan County Detention Center to house adult prisoners if needed. That wording does not prove every current Lewis detainee goes to Rowan, and the older Mason practice should not be treated as the present default.

- Check that jail’s current custody source, then ask its records custodian for an existing release sheet or release log for the precise date range.
- Search Kentucky VINE for the person and read the reporting agency, location, status, and event label.

- Compare the jail timestamp with the court order or state event before reporting a completed community release.

Lewis County Release Record Fields
No verified Lewis feed supplies a standard set of recent-release columns. Ask for the fields in an existing booking/release sheet instead. The agency may redact exempt material, but a narrow request helps the custodian locate a record without creating a custom report.

“Transfer” is not the same as release to the community. A person can leave one roster while remaining confined by KDOC, another jail, federal authorities, or a detaining agency. Preserve the exact disposition wording when it is available.
Request Lewis County Release Records

Ask for the existing booking/release sheet, movement record, actual release date and time, disposition, and destination for a named person and date. If seeking a list for one day, ask whether that receiving jail already maintains a release log that can be filtered by committing agency. Kentucky agencies need not create a new compilation merely to answer a question.
The county policy describes a five-day written-response period excluding weekends and legal holidays, while lawful exemptions may apply. It lists ten cents per noncommercial paper page and no fee for an existing digital record sent in digital form. Those are county policy terms, so a receiving jail may have its own published process and charges.
Kentucky Daily Releases Are Statewide
The Kentucky Department of Corrections publishes Daily Releases PDFs. Each state list can show first, middle, and last name, DOC ID, institution, and type of release. This is a real day-by-day record for state-sentenced people, including some people housed in county-jail beds. It is not a Lewis County jail release list.
Use the official KDOC Daily Releases example to understand the format, then match the DOC ID in KOOL. A parole, Mandatory Reentry Supervision, or other community status can mean the person left confinement while still serving a sentence under supervision. A current KOOL status can also show a later return to custody, so the daily event should not be read in isolation.
KDOC Open Records is the formal route for a movement history, sentence-status sheet, release document, or discharge order. County-only detainees who never entered a state sentence may have no KOOL record. A KOOL no-match is not a negative test for a Lewis jail release.
Lewis Release Data Is Historical
Kentucky Courts publishes a Lewis County breakout of pretrial release decisions and outcomes for cases booked in calendar years 2017 through 2021. The report can provide carefully labeled context about past judicial release decisions. It cannot name who left a jail today, provide a current headcount, or prove that release processing finished.
The distinction is critical. A court release order supplies legal authority. The receiving jail’s sheet supplies the physical exit time. Another warrant or detainer can keep a person confined even after one case ends. Historical county totals should never be turned into a current 24-hour count.
Lewis Release Versus Custody
A current roster, when one exists at the actual receiving jail, can support that someone remains there. Removal from a roster is only an observation. It can reflect release, transfer, an outage, a spelling change, suppression, or movement into state custody.

Federal systems apply only when the case has a federal basis. BOP “RELEASED” means no current BOP custody, not the end of federal supervision or all possible custody. ICE’s locator is current-custody oriented, and a no-match does not prove release.
